ZAGREB, Jan 30 (Hina) - About 200 doctors employed in hospital
Zagreb, Croatia's largest medical centre, came out in front of the
building at 11.55 a.m. on Thursday to participate in an action of
the Croatian Doctors' Union and tell the government the time had
come to agree on higher salaries and on improving their status. #L#
Union president Ivica Babic, who joined in the rally, said the
action called "The Eleventh Hour" was aimed at telling the Health
Ministry that the union, in patients' interest, wanted to negotiate
and reach an agreement as soon as possible.
"We have come closer in our standpoints and I hope that over the next
two days we will reach an agreement."
The final decision on the government's pay raise offer and the
course of negotiations so far would be made by the union's strike
committee on Saturday.
Babic said the union was willing to make a compromise in connection
with its demand for a linear pay increase of 2,000 kuna (267 euros)
and an increase in compensation for special work conditions.
The union organised the five-minute protest in front of hospitals
nation-wide.
