"If there is any suspicion about a scam or some other game, we want
it to be clarified before the public in a parliamentary discussion,
because there is no reason to hide any privatisation process
conducted by the government," Arlovic told reporters.
He said the SDP had not expected its coalition partner, the Croatian
Peasants Party (HSS), to accuse it of deceiving the HSS in
connection with the sale of Suncani Hvar, after all the conducted
negotiations.
"It is not the SDP which decided to sell Suncani Hvar, but the
government, within its legal authorities and jurisdiction," said
Arlovic, adding that his party wanted the government to bring the
privatisation of the company to an end.
He believes yesterday's statement by HSS president Zlatko Tomcic
that the agreement on the sale of the Croatian company should be
rescinded is legitimate, but unacceptable.
"Croatia's reputation is at stake and the government cannot gamble
with it, nor with the privatisation process," he said.
Asked whether the two parties' differences would cause the break-up
of the ruling coalition, Arlovic said he did not believe that the
Suncani Hvar issue could cause a split in the coalition which would
lead to a political crisis and early elections.
