Steiner said one of the most important problems he was facing was
the high rate of unemployment which forces Kosovo citizens to
emigrate. Another big problem is organised crime and the as yet
unresolved political and legal status of the Yugoslav province, he
said.
Picula stressed that a stable region was in Croatia's interest.
With its example, Croatia wants to urge others to follow its model
of resolving open issues. Solving Kosovo's status should not
destabilise the region, nor bring into question the issue of
borders of neighbouring countries, the minister stressed.
Croatia is prepared to contribute to the stabilisation of the
situation and creation of conditions for Kosovo's sustainable
development by intensifying economic and cultural cooperation, as
well as by boosting cooperation in combating organised crime, the
ministry's press release says.
Also today, Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic spoke with Steiner about
the development of economic cooperation between Croatia and
Kosovo.
"The current cooperation between the two economies is not
satisfactory," Jurcic said.
He added that there was great potential in developing this
cooperation since the two economies were complementary to a great
extent.
