RIJEKA, Jan 20 (Hina) - The main hearing in the war crimes trial of
the so-called Gospic Group at Rijeka's county court will continue
on Tuesday with the testimony of Croatia's deputy interior minister
in 1991, Smiljan Reljic. #L#
Reljic should confirm or deny the authenticity of an audio
recording from the so-called Dasovic tape, which allegedly
contains a confession made to Reljic in 1991 by Ivan Dasovic, then
chief of police in Gospic.
In the tape submitted by the Counter-Intelligence Agency, the voice
claimed to be Dasovic's says two of the accused, Tihomir Oreskovic
and Mirko Norac, are responsible for mass abductions and killings
of civilians.
During the main hearing Dasovic was unable to confirm that the voice
in question is his, something that experts have not been able to
clarify either.
Presiding judge Ika Saric ruled Reljic should be called to testify
again to say if the voice recorded in his office in late 1991 was
indeed that of Dasovic.
