Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan said the meeting was successful
and thanked for the support for "Croatia's plans to submit an
application for EU membership".
The summit was also commended by the other three participants,
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Hungary's Peter
Madgyessy and Slovenia's Anton Rop. The premiers guaranteed full
support for Croatia's bids to enter Euro-Atlantic associations as
soon as possible, both on behalf of their countries and the
Qadrilaterale.
Berlusconi gave Racan assurances that Italy would fully support
Croatia in its efforts to become a full EU and NATO member.
The prime ministers also agreed to intensify cooperation in a
number of areas such as economy, defence, infrastructure, minority
protection, environmental protection and culture and science.
They adopted a document called the Zagreb Declaration, which notes
the premiers' full support for Croatia's integration in Euro-
Atlantic associations and the enhancement of cooperation in all
areas.
The Zagreb Summit ended Croatia's presidency of the Quadrilaterale
in 2002. This year the group is chaired by Slovenia.
