DUBROVNIK MAYOR FORWARDS APPEAL FOR SALVATION OF CITY CORE

DUBROVNIK, Jan 14 (Hina) - Dubrovnik Mayor Dubravka Suica on Tuesday forwarded an appeal to Croatian Culture Minister and chairman of the Institute for the Reconstruction of Dubrovnik Steering Board, Antun Vujic. She asked him to urgently call a session of the board with only one item on the agenda: the adoption of an action plan for the reconstruction of the most endangered parts of the city's historic core and the establishment of the amount of funds necessary for implementing the plan. #L# Suica warned reporters about the devastation and damage to the historic core, which culminated in part of the quayside in the old city harbour crumbling into the sea, and other damage. The recent events warn about the seriousness and necessity for urgent protection and reconstruction of the city core, which is envisaged by the Law on the Reconstruction of Dubrovnik's Monuments. Croatia needs to undertake all available measures to remove the cause and consequences of the damage, she said. (hina) lml
