ZAGREB, Jan 3 (Hina) - Leaders of the five-party ruling coalition on
Friday agreed that this coalition should continue doing its job in a
responsible way, Premier Ivica Racan said after a dinner held on
occasion of marking the third anniversary after the coalition came
into power in Croatia. #L#
"I am one of those who believe that the task of the coalition is to
wrap up its mandate, we have not yet said all what we had to say, and
we are facing serious tasks until the end of the term of office,"
Racan said after the dinner which he described as "a working,
informal dinner".
He added that the leaders had not discussed the "Suncani Hvar" hotel
company or the privatisation process in general.
"This is a serious matter and dinner is not enough (time) to
consider it", the premier said adding that future meetings would
more revolve around it.
He recalled that some time in the past the government adopted a
conclusion that some complex companies in the tourist sector should
first be restructured and later privatised, and the said Suncani
Hvar was among 12 such firms.
According to Racan, the restructuring of the Suncani Hvar has not
been completed due to the resistance of the management and local
authorities on the Adriatic island of Hvar.
Racan admitted that Croatia was being currently in a complex
position, given that the invitation for bids for the privatisation
of that company in Hvar was international. Consequences can occur
if the results of the invitation be ignored, Racan warned.
He announced that the government would respond with arguments to
the claims that Croatia was for sale.
"We shall show what this government has sold, and what previous
governments stole or sold," he said.
He declined to comment on statements from the Croatian Peasants
Party (HSS) that the coalition must agree on a concept of
privatisation by end of January, or the HSS would leave the
coalition.
"I believe that the coalition partners will manage to soberly
discuss the state of affairs," the premier added.
