ZAGREB, Dec 29 (Hina) - The monument to former Yugoslav communist president Josip Broz Tito, which was blown up in his home village shortly after midnight last Sunday, was brought to the foundry of the Academy of Visual Arts in Zagreb on Wednesday for restoration.

The monument, which was put up in 1948 outside the house in which Tito was born in the village of Kumrovec, about 40 kilometres northwest of Zagreb on the border with Slovenia, will be restored according to the original gypsum cast.

The value of the statue is estimated at 150,000 kuna (approximately 20,000 euros). The cost of restoration will be fully covered by the Ministry of Culture and restoration works are expected to take about a month.

The monument was made by well-known Croatian sculptor Antun Augustincic in 1947 and is considered one of his best works.
