Citing Drnovsek's office, Slovene news agency STA said on Friday the Slovene head of state agreed with the idea and expected the official proposal.
After meeting Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi on Wednesday, Mesic said they talked about an initiative to hold the trilateral meeting at Brijuni Isles, Croatia, in the spring.
The Trieste-based Slovene-language daily Primorski Dnevnik said yesterday the Slovene side was not informed about the meeting, and recalled that the Italian side questioned ex-Slovene President Milan Kucan's previous idea of "an act of reconciliation" because it objected to the idea that the symbolic meeting, which would put an end to the historical burden in the relations between the three peoples in the last century, should include a visit to the sites of the suffering of Slovenes and Croats under Italian fascism, such as the concentration camps on Rab island and Rizarna near Trieste.
