Marijan Budimir and Nikola Uzarevic were arrested last Friday by police in Vinkovci because one of them resembled a person who had committed robbery shortly before their arrest. After they were released, the two men underwent a medical examination in nearby Osijek which revealed injuries, and contacted the police in Osijek to report what had happened to them in Vinkovci.
An internal investigation revealed that the injuries discovered on the two men could not be connected to the conduct of police officers at the Vinkovci police station, the county police department said, adding that the police officers were responsible for failing to submit reports or report to their superiors use of means of coercion.
