The Currency Exchange Inspectorate confirmed the information, adding that the order was suspended after GONG appealed the fine.
It explained that two fines of 5,000 kuna were imposed after GONG converted a donation of 2,000 euros into kunas and deposited the sum on the kuna account and wrongly informed the bank of the transaction. The fine of 18,000 kuna was given for GONG's failure to have an audit book on transactions with abroad, GONG said.
It went on to say that the inspectors visited the GONG offices in May when they inspected several NGOs that complained about changes regarding the payment of Value Added Tax.
GONG said it appealed against the fine and described the two-month inspection as "a show of force of the state apparatus over civil society".
GONG said it regularly published its financial statements every year.
The Inspectorate said a ruling of the first-instance court on the matter was expected.
