start of membership talks with Turkey at an EU summit in December, Foreign
Minister Dimitrij Rupel announced on Wednesday after talks with his Turkish
counterpart Abdullah Gul in Ljubljana."Turkey's potential should be used," Rupel told reporters, focusing on
the context of relations between the European Union and the Islamic world.
The Turkish diplomat was also received by President Janez Drnovsek, who
reiterated that Slovenia supported Turkey on its path to EU membership.
A decision on the start of negotiations with Turkey is of fundamental
importance to entire Europe, and Turkey will have to make a lot of effort to
achieve the goals it has set for itself, Drnovsek said.
