VIENNA, Nov 19 (Hina) - The EU's High Representative for the Common
Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, has said that a major challenge for
the EU is the transfer of democracy, prosperity and security across its
borders, stressing that the EU cannot exist as an island of prosperity and
stability in the middle of a stormy sea.The EU shares common values and interests, therefore the old and new
members, as well as those that will join the EU have to fully understand those
interests and obligations, Solana said at the 7th European forum "Europe
Without Borders - What Keeps the European Union Together" in Vienna on
Friday.
The EU's neighbours will one day become full EU members, which is why
the EU has to work on ensuring such prospects for them, Solana said, adding
that this was being done in the Balkans.
