SKOPJE, Nov 15 (Hina) - Macedonian Prime Minister Hari Kostov on Monday tendered his resignation after five months in office due to disagreements with the Albanian-led Democratic Union for Integration, the minority partner in his Government.

According to Kostov, this party is blocking all reforms and sees its role in the Government only as a means to undermine the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement and promote narrow party interests, including nepotism and corruption.

Kostov said the party was responsible for the fact that there was no agreement in the ruling coalition or team work on the realisation of Macedonia's strategic goals. He added the Government was being prevented from carrying out economic reforms and combating corruption.

Kostov went on to say that the Albanian partner in the ruling coalition was preventing the adoption of a number of laws necessary for adjusting Macedonian legislation to European standards which had no effect on inter-ethnic relations.

He said he did not want the Government to be ineffective, so he addressed his resignation to Parliament Speaker Ljupce Jordanovski.

Kostov is not a member of any of the three ruling parties making up the Government, which he entered two years ago as interior minister. He became prime minister after the death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, who was succeeded by the then PM Branko Crvenkovski.
