WARSAW, Sept 27 (Hina) - Croatia's strategic economic goals are to reduce unemployment and increase exports while maintaining the current monetary stability, President Stjepan Mesic told a Polish-Croatian economic forum in Warsaw on Monday.

Attending the forum are some 80 business people, mostly Polish, as well as representatives of a number of Croatian companies.

Mesic presented Croatia's economic indicators and explained structural reforms and projects which are being implemented.

Croatia-Poland trade was US$244 million last year, of which Croatian exports were a mere $30 million. Mesic said Croatia should increase its exports.

He advocated intensifying cooperation in tourism, knowledge and technology exchange, and increasing direct investment. Last year 240,000 Poles vacationed in Croatia realising 1.33 million overnight stays.

Mesic said the political and legal frameworks for undisturbed business had been set and urged the business people to exploit the potentials of a successful economic cooperation.

Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski spoke about the Polish economy, whose advantages he said were low inflation and interest rates, a low national deficit, and a stable economic growth. He underlined the importance of investments by Croatia's pharmaceutical company Pliva and food company Podravka, but also pointed to the lack of Polish investment in Croatia.
