ZAGREB, Sept 23 (Hina) - The European Commission on Thursday expressed concern about Wednesday's incident on the Croatian-Slovene border, when the Croatian border police detained a group of Slovene nationals who had illegally entered Croatia.

Emma Udwin, spokesperson for the EC's External Relations Commissioner, told Hina the EC was concerned about reports on the border incident.

The EC expects the Croatian authorities to carry out an investigation and is looking forward to its results, Udwin said, adding that she would be able to say more once she had all details of the case.

High European Union Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana said at a meeting with Croatia's and Slovenia's foreign ministers Miomir Zuzul and Ivo Vajgl on Wednesday evening that border disputes should be solved bilaterally and through dialogue.

Solana met the two ministers on the margins of the annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The main message conveyed by High Representative Solana to the two ministers was that bilateral problems should be solved bilaterally and through talks, Solana's spokesperson Cristina Gallach told Hina on the phone today.

Dialogue is the key word, and this goes for all similar disputes, Gallach said.
