Health Minister Andrija Hebrang said at the award-giving ceremony that Croatia had been recording an increase in organ transplantations and was drawing closer to European Union countries in recent years.
Unlike 2000, when 33 transplantations were performed, last year saw 116 transplantations, while in this year's first half alone, 113 such operations were performed.
The minister said that a new law introducing higher standards in the education of medical staff and the quality of transplantation centres was being prepared.
