ZAGREB, Sept 14 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Privatisation Fund (HFP) and the Russian "Mechel" company on Tuesday evening signed an agreement terminating a sales contract on the Sisak Ironworks signed in February last year and enabling the Russian company to withdraw from the Sisak Ironworks.

The agreement was signed by HFP president Damir Ostovic and former Mechel Ironworks director Nasibulla Mukhatdinov.

An agreement transferring the sales contract from the official receiver of the Sisak Ironworks, Darko Sket, and the HFP, was signed this evening as well.

Ostovic explained that under this agreement, the HFP would take over from Mechel all contractual obligations, company property and employees, as well as all obligations towards employees.

Employees will be transferred to a new company owned by the HFP until the new strategic partner is found.

Mukhatdinov said the employees of the Sisak Ironworks would receive on Wednesday their August wages totalling 1.1 million kuna, bank guarantees totalling 3.6 million euros for workers' wages would be activated, and 1.5 million euros worth of tools and reserve parts would be left in the company as a sign of good will, so that the new investor could start with production as soon as possible.

By doing so, Mechel has fulfilled all of its obligations under the Labour Act and the sales contract, and paid all claims, Mukhatdinov said.

Ostovic said the HFP was working intensively on drawing up a list of potential investors and that a presentation of the Sisak Ironworks to potential buyers would be held soon.

The Sisak Ironworks has 1,607 employees.
