The marble candle-labrum, which was set up at the base of the common grave, was broken, and another metal candle-labrum in the section where German soldiers were buried was damaged. Vandals tried to remove a memorial plaque, and they also damaged two family graves.
The damage caused by this vandal act is estimated at some 3,000 kuna.
This was the second act of desecration of graves in the Zagreb area in seven days after on 7 September an unknown perpetrator damaged a memorial plaque set up in the graveyard in Rakitje in tribute to anti-Fascist soldiers and stole the bust of Ivan Sokolcic, who was a partisan in the Second World War, the police said.
