The Japanese Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) said on Tuesday morning that the decision to raise the severity of the incident from level 5 to 7 -- the same as the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine in 1986 -- was based on cumulative quantities of radiation released.
The Croatian nuclear safety office reported that the decreasing amounts of radioactive material have been sent into the air or into the sea at the Fukushima-Daiichi location, northeastern Japan.
The measurements conducted within the radiological controls in Croatia still do not indicate any rise of concentration of activities of iodine I-31 and Cs-137 or any other radionuclide, the Croatian office said.
