ZAGREB, Aug 29(Hina) - Ten large retail store chains control 49.1 percent of the Croatian market, according to the results of the latestsurvey by the Gfk market research agency for the first half of thisyear.
ZAGREB, Aug 29(Hina) - Ten large retail store chains control 49.1 per cent of the Croatian market, according to the results of the latest survey by the Gfk market research agency for the first half of this year.

Their overall market share is constantly increasing -- last year it was 45.3 per cent and the year before 37.1 per cent. The largest share of the market is controlled by Konzum with 17.3 per cent. Last year its share was 15.1 per cent.

Konzum is followed by Getro (7.3 per cent), Kaufland (5.4 per cent), Billa (5.1 per cent), KTC (5 per cent), Presoflex (2.4 per cent), Mercator (2.1 per cent), Kerum (1.7 per cent), Metro (1.5 per cent) and IperCoop (1.3 per cent).

Apart from Konzum, an increase in the market share was also recorded by Kaufland (from 3 per cent in 2003 to 5.4 per cent in 2004), Kerum (from 1.2 per cent to 1.7 per cent) and IperCoop (from 0.5 per cent to 1.3 per cent).

Getro's share of the market was reduced from 8 per cent last year to 7.3 per cent in the first half of this year, and KTC's share dropped from 6.7 per cent to 5 per cent. The shares of Billa, Mercator, Metro and Presoflex remained at last year's levels.

The survey results were based on monitoring the purchasing of consumer goods by Croatian households.
