HVAR, Aug 27 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic received Jordanian Prime Minister Faisal al-Fayez on the southern Adriatic island of Hvar on Friday to exchange views on global politics, particularly the growing threat of terrorism and hot spots, and consider the advancement of Croatia-Jordan cooperation.

The two officials concluded global terror could be eliminated only by removing its true sources, by preventing poverty and helping small countries achieve independence. In a statement after the talks, Mesic said terrorism would become a thing of the past only when those problems were solved.

Mesic said there were no outstanding issues between Croatia and Jordan, while the potential for cooperation was great.

"This is what we talked about today, not only cooperation in the economy, but in culture as well, so that the two peoples can get to know each other better. Croatian ports can really help Jordan's economy, which is a huge market, while through Jordan Croatia can access a big market," Mesic said, adding he expected cooperation between the two countries to intensify following al-Fayez's visit.

The Jordanian PM highlighted the warm welcome he was given in Croatia, where he said he felt at home. He added Jordanian King Abdullah wanted relations with Croatia to intensify and cared very much about the cooperation between the two countries.

Al-Fayez said today's talks addressed cooperation in tourism and energetics as well as the political difficulties in the Near East, adding he and Mesic agreed terrorism should be fought against and a just solution found for Iraq and Palestine.

Al-Fayez assessed his visit to Croatia as very successful. He said Jordan was a doorway to Iraq from which Croatia's economy could greatly benefit, while Croatia represented Jordan's doorway to Europe.

He concluded by saying he would invest effort so that a regular Amman-Zagreb flight was introduced.
