"We never had historical mortgages with Croatia which would require the establishment of such a commission," Vajgl told Slovenia's POP-TV on Tuesday evening.
Rupel, who was relieved of duty as foreign minister two months ago, told a news conference on Tuesday afternoon the commission, which would comprise Slovene and Croatian historians and lawyers, might depoliticise the problems between the two countries, putting them on an expert level, notably in connection with the undefined sea border.
"We had such a commission with Italy and Austria because of historical encumbrances dating back to the war, but we never had any historical mortgage with Croatia," Vajgl said on POP-TV.
Speaking of the contentious sea border, Vajgl said the deal initialled by the two countries' former prime ministers, Slovenia's Janez Drnovsek and Croatia's Ivica Racan, was, even though Croatia considered it no longer current, "the only document on which the two governments were in serious agreement".
