The take-over was carried out in compliance with an agreement on the succession to the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) under which the building in question became the property of Croatia.
The succession agreement was signed between Croatia and the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on 29 June 2001 in Vienna.
On 3 May this year, Croatia submitted to the United Nations in New York a letter confirming the ratification of the agreement on succession among the five countries-successors to the former SFRY.
As a result, all prerequisites were fulfilled for the agreement regulating the division of rights, obligations, property and debts of the former federation, to go into force. According to the document, Croatia took over the building of the said embassy in the French capital, the press release read.
This autumn, talks will resume on the division of the remaining property and assets among the five successors.
