This was the second such welcome organised for Blaskic, the first having taken place in his birthplace of Kiseljak on Wednesday.
Contrary to announcements, Blaskic on Thursday did not visit Ahmici, the village near Vitez where Bosnian Croat troops killed more than a 100 local Muslims in April 1993. The Hague tribunal's Appeals Chamber last Thursday reduced Blaskic's sentence from 45 to nine years' imprisonment after establishing that he was not liable for the crime in Ahmici.
The families of the Ahmici victims told the media they were against Blaskic visiting the village.
The association of concentration camp inmates of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is comprised mostly of Muslims, has accused the media of pompously reporting about the reduction of Blaskic's sentence and of depicting him as a hero, which the association says is an insult to concentration camp inmates.
