SDP chief Lagumdzija proposes holding int'l conference on Bosnia by year's end

SARAJEVO, April 6 (Hina) - The leader of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SDP), Zlatko Lagumdzija, who is on a visit to the United States, proposed to his American hosts the organisation of an international conference on future reforms in Bosnia to be held by the end of this year, the Bosnian SDP party said in a press release in Sarajevo on Wednesday.

Lagumdzija met with United States Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon in Washington.

The SDP leader proposed organising a conference by the end of this year at which "the international community will set out concrete proposals for upgrading the constitutional framework facilitating the efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina to meet the set objectives by the end of 2014."

The talks between Lagumdzija and the US Administration officials also focused on the establishment of the new Bosnian government after the October 2010 general elections.

Lagumdzija was quoted as saying that the SDP was committed to forming a ruling majority at the state level, after it was done in the Federation, based on a clearly defined programme and the distribution of responsibility for its implementation.

He thanked Steinberg and Gordon for the US support to Bosnia and Herzegovina "particularly during the process of the formation of the government after the elections".
