Minister says it's premature to speak about Croatia's possible engagement in Libya

ZAGREB, March 25 (Hina) - It is too early to say how the Croatian armed forces could possibly take part in the international operation in Libya, Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic said on Friday while commenting on the decision that NATO should take over command of Libyan operations in the coming days.

The alliance's member-countries on Thursday decided that NATO would oversee the no fly zone over that northern African country, which was imposed in a bid to protect civilians against the air strikes of the forces supporting Muammar al Gaddafi. Croatia joined NATO on 1 April 2009.

Consultations are being conducted in NATO as to how the alliance will be involved and how it will enforce the no fly zone, Bozinovic said explaining that it was premature to speculate about Croatia's a possible engagement.

Answering questions from reporters outside the government headquarters, Bozinovic, who was coming to the government's session, said that at the present stage of the operation Croatia would not give any concrete contribution.

This is the beginning of the operation, we'll see how it develops, he said.
