DRNOVSEK SAYS HE AND MESIC DID NOT DISCUSS WITHDRAWING OF SLOVENE ARMY FROM SVETA GERA

LJUBLJANA, May 12 (Hina) - Slovene President Janez Drnovsek has said for the latest issue of a Slovene weekly that during his recent meeting with Croatian President Stjepan Mesic at the Jelsane-Rupe border crossing there was no talk about the withdrawing of Slovene Army from the facilities of the former JNA barracks at Sveta Gera, even though there were speculations about that in Croatian media.
LJUBLJANA, May 12 (Hina) - Slovene President Janez Drnovsek has said for the latest issue of a Slovene weekly that during his recent meeting with Croatian President Stjepan Mesic at the Jelsane-Rupe border crossing there was no talk about the withdrawing of Slovene Army from the facilities of the former JNA barracks at Sveta Gera, even though there were speculations about that in Croatian media.#L# Maybe the information appeared in Croatian media because of Slovenia's joining the EU, but a possible withdrawing of the Slovene Army from Sveta Gera was discussed as part of talks on the "initialled" Drnovsek-Racan agreement, the Slovene president told the weekly. "The idea was that the Slovene Army withdraws after the adoption of the border agreement, because under the agreement the barracks is on Croatia's soil," Drnovsek said and added that the issue was now dealt with the the Anton Rop government. Asked whether he expected the Croatian government to to withdraw the parliament's decision on proclaiming the environmental and fishing zone in the Adriatic, Drnovsek said it would be realistic to expect the postponement of the implementation of the said decision.
