HDZ, HSS, HSP FAIL TO AGREE ON CONCLUSIONS FOR DEBATE ON RELATIONS WITH ICTY

ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the Peasant Party (HSS) and the Party of Rights (HSP) held talks in the parliament building on Wednesday in yet another attempt to agree on joint conclusions for a parliamentary debate on relations with the UN war crimes tribunal, but failed to reach agreement.
ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the Peasant Party (HSS) and the Party of Rights (HSP) held talks in the parliament building on Wednesday in yet another attempt to agree on joint conclusions for a parliamentary debate on relations with the UN war crimes tribunal, but failed to reach agreement.#L# There will probably be no more informal party consultations on draft conclusions for a debate on Hague war crimes tribunal indictments, HSS leader Zlatko Tomcic told Hina. The HSS still insists that parliament debate cooperation with the tribunal and indictments against generals Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac and six Bosnian Croats, Tomcic said. He said that his party's conclusions were acceptable to the HDZ but not to the HSP, which insisted on its own conclusions. The HSS leader added that he was not familiar with the position of other parties. Parliament should discuss relations with the tribunal and conclusions can be harmonised in the course of the discussion, Tomcic said. "The next move is to be made by the HDZ, which can move the debate on the Hague tribunal from the parliamentary agenda, but in that case it has to assume political responsibility for that," Tomcic said. Attending today's talks were also HDZ official Ivan Jarnjak and Anto Djapic of the HSP. Jarnjak told Hina that no agreement was reached at the talks, but that he still believed agreement on the joint conclusions was possible. Unofficial sources in the HSP have said that there is no reason to further postpone the debate. (Hina) rml sb
