HSP DEPUTY SAYS HAS INFORMATION ON NEW ICTY INDICTMENTS

ZAGREB, April 30 (Hina) - A member of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), Pero Kovacevic, said in parliament on Friday he had information that despite promises to the contrary, the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague would issue new indictments.#L# Kovacevic made the statement after a break which his party requested over the tribunal's decision to reject requests by generals Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac for provisional release. "We are shocked by that fact... all the more so as we were assured by the Government and the Justice Minister that the two generals would be released by Easter," Kovacevic said. He called the latest developments "a big trick on the generals, the Croatian public and the prime minister" and called for a parliamentary debate on the Hague tribunal indictments. The State Secretary at the Justice Ministry, Snjezana Bagic, confirmed that the tribunal rejected requests for the provisional release of generals Markac and Cermak until they were interviewed by the prosecutor. "The Government, too, expects that they will be released after they are interviewed," Bagic said, adding that the government's assurances were not brought into question. The parliament did not discuss the HSP's requests and claims but wrapped up its sixth sitting after Bagic's speech. (Hina) rml
