BOSNIAN AUTHORITIES WILL HAVE TO NOMINATE NEW CANDIDATES FOR MILITARY POSTS

SARAJEVO, April 22 (Hina) - Candidates for command posts in the Bosnian armed forces nominated by the country's presidency did not pass check-ups and the local authorities are expected to nominate new candidates, Stabilisation Force (SFOR) spokesman Dave Sullivan said in Sarajevo on Thursday.#L# A significant number of candidates do not meet the set criteria and some of them should not have been nominated at all, Sullivan said. For the first time since the signing of the Dayton peace agreement Bosnia-Herzegovina should get an armed forces headquarters at the state level, as well as an operational command. The state presidency decided that the twelve command posts in the new structures should be filled by officers with the ranks of brigadier and colonel to avoid debates about current generals who all played prominent roles in the war. Sullivan, who declined to reveal the names of the nominated officers, said that all check-ups referred to the candidates' possible connection with war crimes and other criminal activities as well as possible involvement in political activities.
