April 2003, will very likely go to arbitration, Croatia's Economy and Labour Minister Branko Vukelic said on Thursday after a meeting of the Croatian-Slovene commission for monitoring the implementation of a bilateral agreement on the Krsko plant. The meeting was held in that Slovene town.
KRSKO, April 1 (Hina) - The request of the Croatian Power Supply
Company (HEP) for compensation for Slovenia's failure to transmit the
electricity to Croatia from the jointly-owned nuclear power plant in
Krsko from 1 July 2002 to 18 April 2003, will very likely go to
arbitration, Croatia's Economy and Labour Minister Branko Vukelic said
on Thursday after a meeting of the Croatian-Slovene commission for
monitoring the implementation of a bilateral agreement on the Krsko
plant. The meeting was held in that Slovene town.#L#
"Unfortunately, the two sides have not brought their views closer
together," Vukelic said.
This was confirmed by Vukelic's interlocutor, Slovene Minister of
Zoning and the Power Sector, Janez Kopac. They agreed that the
inter-state commission would no longer consider this issue.
Last May, the Croatian HEP company sent a request to Ljubljana for
covering costs of 53.6 million dollars for the failure to send power
supplies to Croatia in the said period. The failure was caused by a
delay in the ratification of the bilateral agreement by the Slovenia's
parliament. Slovenia's officials said this sum was too high.
The Slovene-Croatian commission on Thursday also considered a
programme for dismantling the nuclear plant and storing radioactive
waste. The both sides voiced satisfaction with the plan drafted by
experts.
