PRISTINA, March 28 (Hina) - The Kosovo government on Saturday began repairing buildings damaged in last week's violence in this UN-administered province that left more than 20 people dead and nearly 600 injured.
PRISTINA, March 28 (Hina) - The Kosovo government on Saturday began repairing buildings damaged in last week's violence in this UN-administered province that left more than 20 people dead and nearly 600 injured.#L# The reconstruction began in a block of Serb-owned flats in Pristina's Ulpiana neighbourhood that was burnt and damaged on the night of March 17. The apartment complex was built in the 1990s as part of a programme of the Belgrade government to accommodate Serb refugees from Croatia. Welcoming the start of the reconstruction works, Kosovo premier Bajram Rexhepi said the reconstruction of the apartment complex would cost 75,000 euros and that it would be completed in 10 days. He called the destruction of the apartments vandalism The Kosovo government has decided to set up a special fund of EUR5 million to repair buildings damaged in the violence. A special task force led by Culture Minister Behxhet Brajshori was established to coordinate the project. Brajshori has contacted UNESCO and the Council of Europe about the project, and the two organisations are expected to send their experts to assess the damage to cultural monuments, particularly monasteries and churches.
