ZAGREB, March 25 (Hina) - The Croatian-Cuban Friendship Society issued
its first public statement condemning a wave of repression launched by
Cuban President Fidel Castro against more than a hundred dissidents.#L#
Between March 18 and 21, 2003 Castro ordered over a hundred dissidents
to be arrested and put on trial for collaborating with the enemy and
betraying the revolution. Their attorneys were prevented from
preparing and presenting the defence and verdicts were delivered
immediately after trials without the right to appeal.
About 75 dissidents, including 26 reporters, were given long prison
sentences, the Croatian-Cuban Society said in a statement.
The society was founded in Zagreb on February 16, 2004.
