SERBIA-MONTENEGRO MUST ENTER PARTNERSHIP FOR PEACE BECAUSE OF KOSOVO - DEFENCE COUNCIL

BELGRADE, March 20 (Hina) - The Serbia-Montenegro Supreme Defence Council has considered the possibility of engaging the Serbia-Montenegro Army in assisting the Kosovo Force (KFOR) and the U.N. Mission to Kosovo (UNMIK) in the prevention of violence and protection of the population in the province, in accordance with the U.N. Security Council Resolution on Kosovo and a military-technical agreement.
BELGRADE, March 20 (Hina) - The Serbia-Montenegro Supreme Defence Council has considered the possibility of engaging the Serbia-Montenegro Army in assisting the Kosovo Force (KFOR) and the U.N. Mission to Kosovo (UNMIK) in the prevention of violence and protection of the population in the province, in accordance with the U.N. Security Council Resolution on Kosovo and a military-technical agreement.#L# The Supreme Defence Council feels it is important that Serbia-Montenegro be admitted to NATO's Partnership for Peace programme as soon as possible as this would contribute to the solving of the Kosovo crisis and help stabilise security in the region, Radio B92 said on Saturday. On Thursday, the day after clashes broke out between ethnic Albanians and Serbs, NATO rejected the Supreme Defence Council's proposal that the Serbia-Montenegro Army help KFOR and UNMIK units in Kosovo. Under Resolution 1244, the Serbia-Montenegro Army may be engaged in Kosovo in four cases -- maintenance of contact with international troops, demining, presence at border crossings, and protection of cultural and religious facilities.
