PROTESTS CONTINUE IN SEVERAL KOSOVO TOWNS

PRISTINA, PRISTINA, March 18 (Hina) - Several dozen Albanians on Thursday clashed with security forces in Kosovska Mitrovica while attempting to enter a police sector by a bridge over the Ibar river which divides the town into the northern, Serbian, and southern, Albanian, sector.
PRISTINA, PRISTINA, March 18 (Hina) - Several dozen Albanians on Thursday clashed with security forces in Kosovska Mitrovica while attempting to enter a police sector by a bridge over the Ibar river which divides the town into the northern, Serbian, and southern, Albanian, sector.#L# According to Radio Kosovo, Kosovo special police and French police threw tear gas on the protesters who then headed towards the Orthodox Chuch in the southern sector of Mitrovica. A group of a dozen demonstrators entered the church's yard and set a fire. NATO-led KFOR members used tear gas and the demonstrators dispersed. Hundreds of Albanians are protesting over a blockade of the Pristina-Skopje road near the Serb enclave of Caglavica and in Veternik near Pristina. Some protesters threw stones at KFOR soldiers and members of the UN Mission police. The union of students of Pristina University organised protests in downtown Pristina to express solidarity with the victims of yesterday's Serb-Albanian clashes. Protest were staged in Pec, Urosevac, Djakovica and Prizren. According to information from Prizren, the entire Serb settlement of Podkalaja is on fire. Radio Kosovo reported on a serious situation in Obilic where about a dozen Serb houses have been set on fire.
