PREMIER SANADER TO VISIT JASENOVAC MEMORIAL CENTRE ON 16 MARCH

ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - Croatia's Prime Minister Ivo Sanader will on Tuesday visit the memorial centre of Jasenovac and pay tribute to victims of the concentration camp which had been organised in the area from 1941 to 1945 by the authorities of the then Independent State of Croatia (NDH).
ava ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - Croatia's Prime Minister Ivo Sanader will on Tuesday visit the memorial centre of Jasenovac and pay tribute to victims of the concentration camp which had been organised in the area from 1941 to 1945 by the authorities of the then Independent State of Croatia (NDH).#L# The visit of Sanader, who will be accompanied by Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, the architect Bogdan Bogdanovic who designed the central monument in the memorial park, and foreign diplomats, is scheduled for 16 March on the occasion of the completion of the renovation of the central monument, i.e. Stone Flower. The monument was designed by Bogdanovic in 1966. Being exposed to weather for 37 years, it was damaged to some extent. In July 2003 the reconstruction began and the Culture Ministry appropriated 1.4 million kuna for this purpose, the Jasenovac Memorial Centre's head, Natasa Jovicic said, During the renovation, experts consulted Bogadnovic. "Through the restoration of the Monument, the tribute is again paid to the victims, and Boganovic's message is that the commemoration of victims must be permanently repeated without insulting anybody and without calling for revenge or concealing the truth, Jovicic said. She went on to say that the Croatian Culture Ministry had earmarked 15 million kuna from 1997 to 2003 for the museum within the Jasenovac Memorial Centre. (Hina) ms
