"All Austrian hosts have given us assurances that Austria and its
executive authorities, including Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel and
Foreign Minister Benita Ferrero Waldner, as well as the parliament,
will strongly lobby for Croatia among its future partners on all
levels of the European policy, and that Austria would be one of
Croatia's main promoters so that Croatia's interests could be
recognised and certain resistance or perceptions removed," Seks said.
He described the official return visit of the Sabor's delegation to
Austria as open and cordial. Seks went on to say that Austria was a
sincere and efficient partner of Croatia in its efforts to enter the
European Union.
On Wednesday Seks held talks with the head of the Austrian
parliamentary committee for the EU, Werner Fasslabend, the
vice-chairwoman of the National Council, Anna Elisabeth Haselbach, and
the heads of the clubs of deputies.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Croatian parliamentarians also toured the
Austrian region of Burgenland where they held talks with
representatives of ethnic Croats.
The president of the provincial assembly of Burgenland, Walter Prior,
said that Burgenland Croats would be the happiest when Croatia was
admitted to the EU as this would mean that "Croatians and Burgenland
Croats live in the European family of countries".
