Mesic said Croatia and Romania lived through a period of a divided
Europe, during which many walls between countries and peoples had been
erected. Today's processes of Europe's unification are quite opposite
- the walls are torn down and standards built, Mesic said.
"This is why I believe it is important that our countries, as well as
other transition countries with a vision and reform policy, encourage
such European processes. I am confident that this is in the interest
of the entire Southeast Europe.
Closing the letter, Mesic expressed hope the two countries would
continue to develop not only friendly relations, but also full respect
and understanding.
