ZAGREB, Feb 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) leader, Anto Djapic, has condemned the incident in which fire was set to the roof of the house of a Croatian Serb returnee in the village of Biljani Donji, but he has also
criticised the Serb People's Council president, Milorad Pupovac, for his "inappropriate political campaign" and his intention "to politicise this insane act and impose the sense of guilt to all Croatian citizens".

"The HSP particularly condemns the implicit bothering and disturbance
of HSP members in such cases," Djapic told a news conference on Monday
and added that his party did not want to be a hostage to "the policy
imposed by the coalition of the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) and
the SDSS (Independent Democratic Serb Party)".
He in particular condemned 'the political chase' carried out by the
Zadar police that searched houses of villagers in Skabrnja and
detained several of them. The arrest of minors, their detention for
several hours and interrogation in a police station in Benkovac, and
an attempt to raid the house of the family of a dead soldier, Zeljko
Bilaver, certainly does not contribute to the resolution of that case
and to the defusion of inter-ethnic tensions, Djapic said labelling
the entire police action as inappropriate.
Commenting on the government's activities, the leader of the
opposition right party, said the government "has been transformed into
a big ministry of foreign affairs", and that the authorities believed
that it would be better to reduce the number of parliament sittings.
He forecast that Croatia could expect problems in June after receiving
a negative answer regarding its EU membership application. The first
problem will crop up with the adoption of a state budget, given that
(Premier Ivo) Sanader has promised to compensate for tenancy rights to
6,000-7,000 flats occupied by Serbs before the war, and he should also
fulfill promises given to pensioners, Djapic said.
