PRISTINA, Feb 16 (Hina) - The UN Civilian Administrator of Kosovo, Hari Holkeri, refused to appear at Monday's opening of the new hall for the Kosovo assembly's plenary sessions as the building had only Albanian symbols.
PRISTINA, Feb 16 (Hina) - The UN Civilian Administrator of Kosovo, Hari Holkeri, refused to appear at Monday's opening of the new hall for the Kosovo assembly's plenary sessions as the building had only Albanian symbols.#L# Holkeri sent a letter to the parliament's chairman, Nexhat Daci, explaining that he had not come to the ceremony as paintings with motives from Albanian history had not been removed from the walls of the hall's corridor, and the UN offical holds that the Assembly of Kosovo is a multiethnic institution. At the ceremony, at which there were no Serb representatives, Daci said that there was room for other symbols in parliament and also that Albanians did not give up their insignia. Present at the opening ceremony were Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova, Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi and the leaders of leading local Albanian parties, Hashim Thaqi and Ramush Haradinaj. (Hina) ms sb
