on Saturday about some opposition parties and their inefficiency.#L#
Talking to reporters in the northern Adriatic city of Pula, he said
the opposition needed to be efficient when "the HDZ (ruling Croatian
Democratic Union) is throwing dust in the public's eyes, when in
effect nothing is happening (since) the HDZ has neither the programme
nor the personnel to reconstruct and move Croatia forward," which he
added the party had pledged to do before winning last November's
elections.
Banac is also worried about the "internal crisis" and some "processes"
in opposition parties.
Responding to a question from the press, Banac said he was personally
very sceptical about Croatia's NATO entry, which he feels is not
necessary for admission to the EU.
"The thesis that the road to Europe passes through NATO is not
convincing given the examples of European countries which are not in
NATO but are in the European Union," he said, adding that admission to
NATO would not be cheap since Croatia would have to invest a lot of
money into its armed forces.
