The additional and repeated elections for ethnic minorities' councils
and representatives are held because less than half the 471 councils
and 141 representatives were elected at a ballot last May, while for
some councils the number of elected members was insufficient.
Given that all ethnic minorities entitled to their councils or
representatives have not nominated their candidates, even after the
upcoming ballot not all councils and representatives will have been
elected.
Of 413 elections called for ethnic minorities' councils and
representatives in counties, cities and municipalities, only 162, or
39 percent, will be held, namely those for which candidates have been
nominated.
A total of 1,514 candidates have been nominated for all elections.
Going to the polls on Sunday are members of the Bosniak, Bulgarian,
Montenegrin, Czech, Hungarian, Macedonian, Albanian, German, Roma,
Slovakian, Slovene, Serb, and Italian minorities.
