ZAGREB, Feb 5 (Hina) - The last U.S. ambassador to the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), Warren Zimmermann, 69, died of pancreas cancer on Wednesday, Voice of America reported on Thursday.

Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), Warren Zimmermann, 69, died of
pancreas cancer on Wednesday, Voice of America reported on Thursday.#L#
Zimmermann was appointed ambassador to the former Yugoslavia in 1989
by President George Bush Senior. He was known for implementing U.S.
efforts to preserve the then Yugoslavia. Bush withdrew him from
Belgrade three years later as a sign of protest against the war which
had broken out.
Zimmermann was in the diplomatic service in France, Austria, Spain,
Switzerland, Venezuela, the former Soviet Union and the Socialist
Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
