The Croatian parliament on Friday ratified the protocol on the
country's joining this international association, based in Vienna,
which deals with migrations issues in east European transition
countries.
Katic told Hina that the exchange of information on illegal border
crossings with other countries in transition would be of key
importance for drawing up a national migration policy strategy The
government is bound to draw up the strategy under the Law on Aliens
which came into force at the start of this year.
The national strategy should help determine the annual quota for
employment permits which will be issued to aliens. The strategy will
be drawn up by a government task force which will be formed later this
month, Katic said. The task force will include representatives of the
ministry, the Croatian Employment Bureau and other experts. The main
duty of the task force will be approaching the issue of illegal
migration on a broader level.
Members of the ICMPD are Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic,
Hungary, Slovenia and Switzerland, said Kontic adding that the annual
membership fee totalled EUR20,000,
