Premier Sanader backed the Brijuni Riviera project, agreeing that
state-owned land should not be sold but given to concession-holders,
Kalmeta said.
Prefect Jakovcic added that he believed that it was the best solution
to give concessions for the state-owned land through international
bids for tenders. He announced the beginning of the operational stage
of this project for early spring, adding that the goal is to render
the Brijuni area the most prestigious destination at the
Mediterranean.
The Brijuni Riviera company has been set up with 4.5 million kuna of
the equity capital, and the government's share in this is three
million, and the rest has been provided by the county.
The Master Plan for the development of tourism from 2004 to 2012
envisages investments of some three billion euros, and 20 percent of
this sum is to be secured by the public sector, and the rest by
private companies, Jakovcic added.
