ZAGREB, Jan 30(Hina) - The parliament on Friday evening decided to make
it possible for judges and state prosecutors to receive bonuses of 0.5
percent per year of service in the judiciary.#L#
Justice Minister Vesna Skare-Ozbolt said this was a temporary measure
which would be applied only this year. The payment of this sort of
bonuses ceased in 1999.
The parliament changed the law on courts making it possible for courts
overloaded with pending cases to transfer some cases to less burdened
courts. The aim of this measure is to reduce the backlog of about 1.5
million unsolved cases.
Under the changed law on rights of state officials and other
office-holders, ombudsmen for children and gender equality, their
deputies and state secretaries and their deputies in central state
offices are added to the list of office-holders.
The parliament adopted changes to the Family Law, re-introducing the
earlier definition of the mother as the woman who gives birth to the
child.
The former coalition government last year adopted the Family Law in
which the definition of the mother enabled legal challenges of
motherhood when there was a suspicion of manipulation with ova.
The new parliament re-introduced the ban on marriage between the first
cousins.
