MPs, government officials, mayors and municipality heads should
declare their assets by the end of this month and if they fail to do
so, they will not be able to receive their salary, in line with the
Law on the Prevention of Conflict of Interest, TIH president Zorislav
Antun Petrovic said at a news conference.
For deputies to be able to submit declarations of assets, a commission
for the prevention of conflict of interest must be set up, Petrovic
said, voicing hope that the parliament would form the commission.
Amendments to three laws - on the prevention of conflict of interest,
local administration and self-government and the right to access to
information - will contribute to Croatia's earning a better mark on
the corruption scale for 2004 than its current mark of 3.7. Croatia
is currently placed 51st among 102 monitored countries, Petrovic
said.
