MINISTER PRESENTS CROATIA'S FOREIGN POLICY PRIORITIES IN BRUSSELS

ZAGREB, Jan 22(Hina) - Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul presented the Croatian government's foreign policy priorities to the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy in Brussels on Thursday, and talked about them with Committee chairman Elmar Brok, the ministry said in a statement.
ZAGREB, Jan 22(Hina) - Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul presented the Croatian government's foreign policy priorities to the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy in Brussels on Thursday, and talked about them with Committee chairman Elmar Brok, the ministry said in a statement.#L# In his address Zuzul focused on the implementation of the main European Union political criteria -- cooperation with the war crimes tribunal in The Hague, return of refugees, protection of minorities, reform of the judiciary, freedom of the media, relations with neighbouring countries, and regional cooperation. He also answered questions. At the meeting with Brok, the minister said the Croatian government was determined to continue carrying out reforms. Zuzul also met Alexandros Baltas, the European Parliament's rapporteur for recommendations and representative for its Socialist Group, to discuss Croatia's EU membership application and analyse the implementation of the main political terms. According to the Foreign Ministry statement, Zuzul underlined the importance of the European Parliament's recommendations for admission to the EU. Baltas supported Croatia's drawing closer to the Union, stressing the need to continue implementing reforms. Zuzul also held talks with Jan Marinus Wiersma, a Dutch deputy in the European Parliament, vice president of the Socialist Group and member of the foreign affairs committee. (Hina) ha sb
