TRIBUNAL INVESTIGATORS QUESTION FORMER ASSISTANT INTERIOR MINISTER

ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - Hague war crimes tribunal investigators questioned former Assistant Interior Minister Josko Moric as a witness in the tribunal's offices in Zagreb on Saturday, Justice Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt told Hina.#L# This is the first time a government official has confirmed media speculation that Moric is among the former and present officials of the interior and defence ministries who have been summoned for an interview with tribunal investigators. According to unofficial information, Moric was the second official to have been questioned as a witness after Zdravko Janic, a former employee of the Special Police Department. Media have reported that summonses for an interview have also been served on Marjan Benko, former assistant interior minister; Josip Turkalj, former commander of the Lucko Anti-Terrorist Unit who is now in charge of the Intervention Police Unit at the Interior Ministry; Ante Soljic, former commander of the Special Police Department; and Colonel Mihael Budimir, senior intelligence and counter-intelligence inspector at the Defence Ministry. Benko and Turkalj have confirmed receipt of the summons. All those summoned are to give a statement on wartime military and police operations code-named Storm and Medak Pocket, said the Office for Cooperation with International Courts at the Justice Ministry.
